CALLING ALL ROCKHOUNDS!
"And they ran uphill and down dale, knapping the chunky stones to pieces with hammers, like so many road makers gone daft. They say, it is to see how the world was made."
Sir Walter Scott 1828
The Wise County Fossil, Rock and Mineral Society began with an interest and desire to educate the public about fossils, rocks, and minerals in the Wise County area. James H Archer, a retired petroleum geologist from Decatur, called for the first organizational meeting on March 4, 2002, at the John and Kathryn Jackson Public Library in Decatur, Texas. Thirty-five people attended the meeting, indicating a strong interest in the earth related subjects.
The purpose of the meeting was to organize people from Wise County and the surrounding area who are interested fossils, rocks, minerals, the lapidary arts, and earth sciences.
